2. Visiting the website and server log files

When you visit this website, the server necessarily processes your IP address in order to deliver the requested pages to your browser. Visits are not logged permanently, with one exception: requests that result in an error (e.g. pages that do not exist) are stored in a log file to detect and fend off attacks and to fix problems. It contains the IP address, date and time, the requested address, the status code, the amount of data transferred, the previously visited page (referrer) and the browser identifier.

The log files are deleted automatically after 14 days at the latest and are not combined with other data. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is the secure and error-free operation of the website.

3. Hosting

This website runs on a server of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (Oracle Corporation and its affiliates) in the Frankfurt am Main data center. Oracle processes the data as a processor under the Oracle Data Processing Agreement (Art. 28 GDPR). The data is stored in Germany. Where access from countries outside the EU cannot be ruled out, it is based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, which form part of that agreement.

4. No cookies

Pigmentry uses no cookies. The only information stored in your browser is your choice of light or dark mode; it is kept solely in your browser's localStorage, is never sent to the server and is used only for display. You can delete it at any time in your browser settings.

5. Audience measurement with Umami

To understand how Pigmentry is used and to improve the database, I use the open-source software Umami. Umami runs on my own server (see section 3) at stats.pigmentry.com; no data is passed on to third parties.

It records the page visited, the previously visited page (referrer), date and time, browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language setting, the country derived from the IP address, and clicks on links to online shops (which shop, which paint). The IP address is processed only briefly to determine the country and, together with the browser details and a regularly changing random value, to form an anonymous identifier; the IP address itself is not stored. Umami sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, does not track you across other websites and builds no user profiles. The data cannot be attributed to any person.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is the statistical analysis of how the website is used and its improvement. If “Do Not Track” is enabled in your browser, no measurement takes place. You can also object to the processing at any time, for example by blocking stats.pigmentry.com with a content blocker.

6. Fonts

The typeface used (Inter) is served from this server. There is no connection to Google Fonts or any other external service.

7. Links to online shops

Pigmentry links to online shops where the paints are available. Some links may be partner (affiliate) links; they are marked “Ad”. Only when you click such a link are you taken to the retailer's website, which may set its own cookies or tracking parameters, for example to attribute a commission. I have no influence on this processing; the retailer's own privacy policy applies.

Some of these partner links go through the affiliate network Awin (AWIN AG, Eichhornstraße 3, 10785 Berlin, Germany). When you click such a link, you are first redirected via an Awin server (awin1.com) to the retailer. Awin processes, among other things, your IP address, browser details and the time of the click, and may set a cookie so that a later purchase can be attributed to my account and a commission paid. The link also contains the ID of the paint page you came from (e.g. schmincke-horadam-493-french-ultramarine) – this shows me which paints lead to purchases, but not who bought them. Pigmentry itself sets no cookies for this; Awin and the retailer decide on this processing under their own responsibility. See Awin's privacy policy.

8. Contact by email

If you email me, I process the information you provide (email address, content of the message) to handle your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The message is deleted once it has been dealt with, unless statutory retention obligations apply.

9. Your rights
